Robert Cicarelli, Jr, 57, of Sandy Hook, passed suddenly and unexpectedly on December 24. Robert is survived by his best friend, wife, and true love of 30 years, Rebecca, and his three children, Siena, Justin, and Camryn, who will hold him forever in their hearts. He is also survived by his father, Robert Cicarelli (Patsy) of Bridgewater, Conn.; brother Michael Cicarelli (Tanya) of Roxbury, Conn.; sister Lucille Spoldi (Michael) of West Haven, Conn.; sister Kathleen Thompson (Jim) of Easton, Conn.; and sister Chrissy Zanni (Joe) of Brandon, Fla., who, along with the rest of Robert’s family and wide circle of friends, will miss him terribly. Robert was predeceased by his mother, Agnes Marks Carp.

Robert was born in Stamford and grew up in Danbury, Conn., where he emerged as a natural born entrepreneur as early as grammar school. Therefore, it was no surprise when, after graduating from the University of Connecticut School of Business, he took over as CEO for his father’s business, Berkshire Food in Danbury, driving its success alongside his brother and partner. Robert was also a leader in the community, and never seemed satisfied with being much less than president —president of Chi Phi fraternity at UConn, president of the Chi Phi Alumni Club, president of the Church Council. However, his real passion was parlaying his experience as an Eagle Scout to set the example for his son Justin and other boys in Newtown, rising to Scoutmaster for Troop 270 and continuing to serve through this year, seeking hiking and outdoor adventures nearly every weekend.

Robert will be remembered by those who loved him for his smile and kind eyes, undeniable grit, extreme intelligence, abundance of dad jokes and good cooking, embellished stories, huge heart, and his love of life.

Funeral services will be held on Sunday, January 2, at 2 pm, at Newtown Congregational Church, located on 14 West Street, Newtown. Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, masks are required for all attendees and other restrictions will be in place. A reception will follow at the church in both the Great Room and outdoors, weather-permitting, to manage for safety.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Robert Cicarelli Philmont Fund to support Scouts heading to hike at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, New Mexico. A GoFundMe page has been set up to launch this non-profit: gofundme.com/f/robert-cicarelli-philmont-fund?utm_source=customer&utm_medium=copy_link&utm_campaign=p_cf+share-flow-1

Honan Funeral Home, 58 Main Street, Newtown is serving the family.

Although we did not know Rob personally, we wanted to send our thoughts and prayers. My daughter is an employee of Berkshire Foods and always spoke so highly of him. She always said he was so kind to her and made her laugh. Our condolences to his family, friends, and co-workers. You are in our prayers, John and Randylynn Brosz
