The symphony generates excitement via rapid cello and bass passages throughout.  In the violin concerto the soloist plays beautiful but demanding embroideries of the orchestral melodies.  The Sinfonia concertante shows off the virtuosity of the four wind players, both in ensemble and solo passages.

Dr Lee has toured the world many times as a State Department Official Musical Ambassador of the United States. He has played with major orchestras, including New York Philharmonic, London Symphony and Berlin Philharmonic.

He has won awards in the Carl Flesch International Violin Competition, J.S. Bach Competition, and Tibor Varga International Violin Competition, and has also received the Fritz Kreisler Prize.

He plays a violin made in Cremona, Italy, by Francesco Ruggieri in 1680, which once belonged to Mozart’s father.

Tickets for this concert will range from $25 to $50 for adults, and $15 to $30 for students.

New Canaan Concert To Benefit AmeriCares

The same program will repeat on Sunday, January 8, at 5 pm, at First Presbyterian Church, 178 Oenoke Ridge Road in New Canaan.

Organist Sean McCarthy will join RSO for the Sonata in C. Dr McCarthy is minister of music at First Presbyterian, where his programs offer a wide range of choral and instrumental opportunities for all ages. As a performer, he has toured much of the United States either as solo organist or in duo recital with long-time trumpet partner James O’Donnell.

Profits from Sunday’s concert will go to AmeriCares Free Clinics, whose mission is to provide free primary care to uninsured residents in Fairfield County. Since 1994, the clinics have provided more than $13 million in quality healthcare services at clinic locations in Bridgeport, Norwalk, and Danbury.

Tickets for the Sunday afternoon concert are $35 for general admission, $50 for reserved seating and a dessert reception afterwards, or $150 for reserved seating, lunch at the Robert Sherman Inn, and a dessert reception afterwards.
