High School Career Center
The following scholarships have arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or information for these scholarships, as well as ones previously listed in The Bee, are available there. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.
USS CONNECTICUT SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM â scholarships awarded to eligible members of the present and past crew or their dependents who plan accredited graduate or undergraduate study, and to eligible citizens of the State who plan accredited undergraduate study at a Connecticut college or university. Application deadline is April 1, 2000.
NEWTOWN SOCCER CLUB/FRED DAVIDSON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND â for high school seniors who reside in Newtown and will be continuing their education after high school. Student must have been a participant in the Newtown Soccer Club and plan to contribute in some manner to the advancement of soccer in Newtown. Application deadline is April 24, 2000.
HEAD OâMEADOW SCHOLARSHIP â two $1,000 scholarships to seniors from Newtown High School who have attended Head OâMeadow School, rank in the top half of their graduating class, and have been accepted to a post-academic program. The application deadline is May 2, 2000.
SANDY HOOK SCHOOL PTA SCHOLARSHIP â scholarship(s) up to $1,000 and Book Award(s) up to $500 for high school seniors who have attended Sandy Hook Elementary School and will be attending a post-high school academic program. Application deadline is April 14, 2000 by 3:00 p.m.
TOWN AND COUNTRY GARDEN CLUB â one-time scholarship award in the amount of $350 presented for study in the fields of environmental science, turf management, forestry, or horticulture. Deadline is April 1, 2000.
PRESIDENTâS STUDENT SERVICE CHALLENGE AND THE NEWTOWN HIGH SCHOOL PTSA SCHOLARSHIP â a $1,000 award offered through the Federal Government and the Newtown High School PTSA. This award is based solely on community service. High school seniors who contributed at least 100 hours of service in any one year, NOT over the four years of high school, and attending a post-high school program. Scholarship winner will be chosen by NHS Scholarship Committee and PTSA President. Application must be returned to Mrs McEvoy in the Career Center by April 1, 2000.
SONS OF PORTUGAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND â local students of Portuguese descent are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Applications are due April 1, 2000 and details are available in the Career Center.
THE JOHN C. âCHIPSâ QUINN, JR SCHOLARSHIP/YANKEE PRESS EDUCATION NETWORK â offers a $1,000 scholarship to a minority student interested in studying journalism in college. Selection will be based upon a letter of nomination, academic performance, personal statement, and samples of studentâs journalistic work. Applications must be postmarked by May 26, 2000.
NEWTOWN SCHOLARSHIP ASSOCIATION â for high school seniors who reside in Newtown and will be attending college in the fall of 2000. The number and amount of scholarships vary. This is an excellent source of financial assistance for the students of Newtown! Students who wish to apply must also submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (F.A.F.S.A.) to the Federal Government as relevant documents from this process are needed. Application deadline is April 14, 2000.
HAWLEY PTA SCHOLARSHIP 2000 â To a graduating senior from Newtown High School who attended the Hawley School. Scholarship recipients demonstrate the elements of character and achievement and dedication that represent the highest goals of education at Hawley School. Applicant must be ranked academically in the top half of the graduating class. Deadline for completed application is April 14, 2000.
MIDDLE GATE PTA SCHOLARSHIP â to receive this award of $1,000, a Newtown High School senior must have attended Middle Gate School, been accepted to a post-high school program, and must return the application by May 1, 2000
THE ROBERT J. GLANDER MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP â a $1000 scholarship for a Newtown resident who will be graduating high school this year, intends to continue his/her education, and who has been a member of a Newtown Babe Ruth Baseball or Newtown Softball Association team. Application must be received on or before April 1, 2000.
