DANBURY — The Afrikan-American Cultural Awareness Association, Inc, a non-profit organization, and Sounds of Afrika will present the 2nd Annual Cultural Extravaganza concert on Saturday, May 6. The extravaganza will continue on May 7 with drum and dance workshops.

Last year’s event was a tremendous success, with nearly 300 people from the greater Danbury area in attendance.

The May 6 concert will showcase cultural dance, artistic expression, music, storytellers, professionally touring dance and drum troupes, and other outstanding artists from the tri-state area. Doors will open Saturday evening at 6:30 pm, and the multi-media performance will run from 7 to 9:30 pm.

Sunday, May 7, is completely hands-on, with instruction by master instructors in dance and drum workshops. The drum workshop will be held from 1 to 2:30 pm, and the dance workshop will follow from 2:30 to 4 pm.

The event doubles as a fundraiser for the Afrikan-American Cultural Awareness, Inc, scholarship fund and student exchange program. A $1,200 scholarship will be awarded to a greater Danbury area senior this year thanks to similar fundraising in the past.

Cost for the weekend is $12 for adults, and $3 for all children age 16 and under. All events will be held at Danbury High School, on Clapboard Ridge Road/Route 39. For additional information, contact Sounds of Afrika at 914/419-6438.
