Occupation: I am a full-time mother. I have a bachelor's degree in
occupational therapy from SUNY at Downstate and a master's in business
administration from Baruch University in New York City.
How Long in Newtown: I'll be here five years in August. Prior to this I lived
in New Jersey. My husband, Lee, and I are both from Long Island.
Biggest Change Seen in Town: In my five years, I haven't seen any change, only
what has always been going on since we moved here. We moved into a new
subdivision and since then more and more subdivisions have been built. They
left trees in our subdivision. I don't like to see the woods taken down in
some of the new subdivisions and new houses with nothing around them.
Family: Lee and I have been married for 13 years. We have three children,
Casey Rose, 8«, Molly Reid, 6«, and Liam, who is almost 2.
Pets: We have two cats, Baby and Emmy.
Hobbies: I like to do needlepoint. I discovered gardening since I moved here
and enjoy it. I also enjoy doing arts and crafts with my girls.
Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read. I love Faber Mazlish. They write
books on how to talk so kids will listen. They have written Liberated Parents,
Liberated Kids , and How to Talk So Kids Can Learn , which is good for parents
and teachers. I read them over and over. As my children get older, I go back
and read them again. They give me a new perspective.
Favorite TV show: Ally McBeal . We're very disappointed with TV. There used to
be at least one show a night we enjoyed; now there's just one a week.
Organizations: I am very involved in Girl Scouts. I have two Brownie troops at
Hawley School, with 27 Brownies. I absolutely love it. I just eat it up. I am
also the Hawley School organizer for Girl Scouts. I make sure there are
leaders for all the troops and that all girls wanting to be Girl Scouts are
assigned to a troop.
Favorite Vacation Spot: We went scuba diving in Jamaica. Before we went, we
took lessons in a pool. I was feeling panic stricken in the pool and
claustrophobic, and thought I would forget to breathe. When we went in the
ocean, I forgot all about being afraid. It was a once in a lifetime thing. It
was an incredible experience.
Personal Philosophy: My personal philosophy is related to my children. I try
to be a positive role model for my children. I want to teach them to be
respectful of, sensitive to, and caring of, not just family and friends, but
all people. Everyone has so much potential to give to this world. If you give
to other people, it's so rewarding. I want my children to care about other
people. We need to teach children that all people are important in this world.
