The Economic and Community Development (ECD) office, in partnership with The Restaurant Week Company, will be promoting “Newtown Restaurant and Business Appreciation Week,” happening October 16-25.

ECD Director John Voket explained that the idea will capitalize on the success of former Restaurant Week activities that were held locally in years past. Voket said that he wants to highlight restaurants as well as other businesses in town through the new EDC website, newtown.org, created so visitors and residents can explore the hundreds of businesses.

Michael Ferreira, founder of itsrestaurantweek.com, said he is excited to be partnering with Newtown to help celebrate the occasion.

“We kick it all off with the inaugural ‘Sip & Savor’ event where local eateries will come together under one roof at the beautiful Newtown Community Center," Ferreira said.

The "Sip & Savor" event will be on October 15, 6-9 pm. Tickets are $50 and part of the proceeds will benefit Real Food CT. Participating restaurants will compete for Best Appetizer and Best Cocktail/Mocktail.

This expansion of promotions beyond restaurants is a first for Ferreira: “Restaurant weeks play a larger role in stimulating the local economy ... Increased restaurant traffic leads to higher sales not just for eateries, but for nearby shops and service providers. It’s a win-win for both restaurants and the business community at large”
