Learn To Hive Honeybees

The Backyard Beekeepers Association (BYBA) will sponsor a free workshop, Saturday, April 10, at Cherry Grove Farm in Newtown, at 11 am, with a rain date of Sunday, April 11, also at 11 am. Local beekeepers Dick Marron and Bobbie Meyzen, both BYBA board members, will provide a hands-on demonstration of the proper techniques for transferring a package of live honeybees into a new hive.

Participants are requested to bring a veil.

Cherry Grove farm is at 60 Platts Hill Road, at the junction of Palestine Road, Hundred Acres Road, and Platts Hill Road. Parking in the farmyard is available. The bee hives are in the field opposite the farmhouse, across Palestine Road. Please do not drive into the field. Look for a sign.

For information, contact Dick Marron at 203-743-0541 or at dickm@snet.net.

A follow-up workshop is scheduled for Saturday, April 17 (rain date Sunday, April 18), to showcase what bees should do within one week.
