Students at St Margaretâs-McTernan School in Waterbury enjoyed âAmazing Hero Artâ on Tuesday, January 25. Rob Surrette of Andover, Mass., is an artist who creates portraits of famous people and using his hands and paint. He speed paints seven gigantic portraits in two to five minutes each, combining his art with a multimedia screen performance, and messages that are important for children.
The artist performed at noon for kindergarteners to eighth graders at the school, and at 2 pm for ninthâtwelfth graders. Mr Surette is considered one of the fastest portrait artists in the world. He travels internationally, exposing children to creative arts, music and performance arts, and history. He has performed at more than 2,000 schools and has been a keynote speaker at hundreds of youth events. He has performed in Africa, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Spain, Kosovo, England, Japan, and Samoa.
