Antiques Show Returning As Historical Society Fundraiser
NEWTOWN â The Newtown Historical Society has announced the details of its 16th Annual Antiques Show, which will take place this year on Sunday, March 4, from 10 am to 4 pm, at Edmond Town Hall on Main Street (Route 25) Newtown.
Select antiques dealers will display a variety of formal to country furniture, clocks, textiles, silver, brass, lamps, baskets, doll, china, maps, and paper ephemera.
Among the diverse dealers will be William Blake of Trumbull, who will display antique prints, maps, advertising and art work; the Seamans of Bethel, with furniture, sewing and decorative smalls; Shelley Smith of Bethlehem, with Steiff animals, Easter toys and candy containers, miniatures and Vienna bronzes; and Susanne Edgerly of Kent, who will show country furniture and accessories and apothecary collectibles.
Pam Franscella of Danbury will be at the show this year, with Depression classics featuring glassware from the 1920s and 1930s, Fiesta and Wallace Nutting prints. Steve and Penny Diggers from Avon will display salt glazed decorative stoneware, Jamie Heuschel of Pleasant Valley will bring early 19th Century country furniture with original and old painted surfaces, and Robert Hart of Bethel, a member of NAWCC, will exhibit 18th and 19th Century clocks.
A donation of $4 will be required at the door. Proceeds will benefit the society in both its public programming and its preservation of the Matthew Curtiss House and its collection. The circa 1750 Curtiss House, located across the street from the antiques show, will be open during show hours for free tours of its 18th Century room settings and later artifact collections.
This well attended, diverse show of quality antiques is easily accessible from major highways, including Exit 27B off I-95, Exit 49N off the Merritt Parkway, or Exit 9 or 10 off I-84. Call the society for further information, 426-5397.
