Getting It On Tape At NHS

Did you miss the school performance of Arsenic and Old Lace ? Do you want to
know what you've got to do to get into college? Or maybe you would like to
find out more about the new high school initiative, the school-to-career
program.
Whatever your interests, you are likely to find something entertaining or
informative on Channel 17 over the next few weeks, while videos prepared by
students in Kerry Hrabstok's video production course have their shows on the
air at 7 pm weekday nights.
Mrs Hrabstok's video program was selected by the district quality council as
one of a handful of courses which exemplify self-directed learning.
Students start with their idea for a show, research the topic, and write about
it. Then they go out and videotape it. Students informally evaluate their
footage and select the best shots. If they think they could have done better,
they re-shoot selected scenes. Then they pull their best images together,
using voice-over or other methods to tell a story, and voila!
All told, the four classes have made 17 segments which have been spliced
together to form three half-hour-long shows.
Between some of the newsy-type segments, students have prepared a little comic
relief, with everything from handstands to a most unusual birthing scene.
Don't miss it!
