Walter A. Cole, 76, died April 3, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, Fla. He was the loving and devoted husband of Elsie (Butkus) Cole. Mr Cole was born in Sandy Hook on August 6, 1933, son of Letta (Bennett) and Frederick Cole.
He lived in Bethlehem for the past 30 years and was a self-employed general contractor and builder for more than 50 years in the Fairfield and Litchfield County areas. He was also a volunteer for The Bethlehem Fair Society.
Besides his wife of 30 years, he leaves five sons, two daughters, three sisters including Shirley Ferris of Newtown, 18 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held Tuesday, April 13, at 11 am, at The Painted Pony Restaurant, Main Street, Bethlehem. The family will be receiving friends at Hickcox Funeral Home, 195 Main Street in Watertown, on Monday, April 12, from 5 to 8 pm. Burial in Bethlehem Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
