Childrenâs Programs
Harry Potter Poetry II: The first poetry workshop was so much fun, Liz Arneth and Harry Potter enthusiasts will gather again on Thursday, May 17, at 3:30 pm in the childrenâs program room. Recommended for grades 4-6. Call or come in to the childrenâs department to register.
Newtown Puppeteers 2nd Annual Puppet Show: The Newtown Puppeteers will hold their second annual puppet show on Sunday, May 20, at 2 pm in the library meeting room. The program is free, but seating is limited. Tickets will be available at 1:30 on the day of the performance. Recommended for ages 4-8.
Holes Book Discussion: Multiple copies of the popular young adult novel Holes are available for checkout. The book will be discussed on Friday, May 25, from 3:30-5 pm. Liz Arneth will lead the discussion. Refreshments will be served.
Exhibits
 The Garden Club will be having an exhibit of membersâ arrangements Friday, May 18, through Sunday, May 20, during regular library hours. Come be inspired.
The SCAN Art Show will be coming to the library May 5 through May 14. More details will be available soon.
Michael Collins of the Beaux Arts Gallery will give a talk and slide show on the works and development of artist and dancer Stella Bloch on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 pm in the meeting room. Beautiful examples of Ms Blochâs art are on permanent display throughout the library. Come learn about this extraordinary woman and her art which was influenced by Harlem jazz, Duncan dance, and pictorial photography!
Adult Programs
Daytime Book Group: For all of you unable to make the evening book discussion please consider joining us at the library for a new daytime group. On May 14, at 1 pm, the group will be discussing Ahabâs Wife by Sena Jeter Naslund. The group will also be putting together a list of books to read in future months, so if you have a recommendation weâd love your input.
Evening Book Group: On Thursday, May 17, the evening book group will discuss Where the Heart Is by Billie Letts. The group will meet at 7:30 pm in the Special Collections room on the third floor. New members are always welcome. We are putting together a list of books to read for next year, and weâd love your input as to what we should read next.
Free Blood Pressure Screening: The screening is available from 10 am to noon the fourth Wednesday of every month in the Genealogy room. This service is provided free of charge and is sponsored by Ashlar of Newtown
Poetry at the Library: Charles Rafferty of Newtown will give a poetry reading on Wednesday, May 23, at 7 pm in the meeting room of the library. A desert reception will follow.Â
Author Talk and Book Signing: On Thursday, May 31, Dr Labriola will be giving a talk and book signing on the book True Crimes Revisited, which he co-authored with Dr Henry Lee. The talk will begin at 7 pm in the meeting room. Books will be available for sale at the time of the signing.
Book Donations: Spring is officially here; time to clean out those cellars and attics and bring those unwanted books to the library. Volunteers are hard at work organizing for our Labor Day Book Sale.
