BOYS U14 PREMIER

 

STRIKERS 5, CHESHIRE 5: The third-place Strikers battled second-place Cheshire and the game proved to be as close as expected. Mathew Miller netted two first half goals – with support from Matthew McFadden and Patrick Kiely – as the two teams went into the half tied at 2-2. Nathan Walzer was superg, guarding the net for the Strikers and holding the Chesire attack at bay until late in the second half. With two goals from Ryan Taplin and another from Kiely, the Strikers held a 5-2 advantage before Cheshire came storming back with just four minutes left to play. Cheshire tied the game with less than a minute to go. Mike Bonsignore and Ryan Keogler gave great defensive efforts.

Canterbury Tournament

 

The U-11 Rage participated in the Northwest District tournament at the Canterbury School on March 4, going 1-2-2.

Rage 1, Newtown U10 0: Chris Nuelle scored off a beautiful set-up from Michael Klein to win a hard fought contest. Joe Rahtelli and Bill McCann played strong all-around games. Steve Marks was terrific in goal.

Rage 0, Newtown U12 2: The Rage never got untracked and were defeated two to nothing. Aron Fay and BrianConroy helped keep the game close with clutch plays.

Rage 2, New Milford U12 2: Down 2-0, the Rage mounted a furious comeback on late goals by Michael Klein and Nick Sando. Brian Conroy was strong on defense and Aron Fay and Michael Kennedy controlled the mid-field.

Rage 1, Watertown U11 1: Chris Nuelle nailed a penalty shot to tie the game. Joe Rahtelli performed well throughout the game.

Rage 0, Danbury Premier U12 1: Newtown lost a heartbreaker to this talented Danbury team. Mike Kennedy was terrific in goal, as Brian Conroy and Bill McCann anchored the defense.

BOYS U10 TRAVEL

 

VIPERS 21, CHESHIRE 4: An explosive offensive effort vaulted the Vipers past Cheshire. The Rams stayed close throughout the first half, scoring all four of their goals their as the Vipers held an 8-4 advantage going into the break. But the Vipers went wild in the second half, scoring 13 times to put the game away. Max Hoagland and Justin Miller scored four goals apiece while Kevin Davies and Paul Andras each scored three goals. Drew Taylor, Nick Kallivrousis, and Kevin Troy scored two goals apiece. Chris Meier added a solo goal and Danny Smith held down the fort in front of the net.

VIPERS 13, EAST HAVEN 9: With first place in the Oakwood Division on the line, the two undefeated teams (Vipers were 4-0 and East Haven was 5-0) met. With the Vipers’ roster crippled because of winter vacation schedules, only eight showed up to play. But that was enough. The Vipers scored nine times in the first half, with Max Hoagland scoring four times, Kevin Troy three times, and Drew Taylor twice. The Vipers held a 9-3 lead at the break, but midway through the second half found themselves up only 10-9. But three unanswered goals by Jason Smith, Nick Kallivrousis and Davies put the match away.
