To The Editor:

Elected officials not paying their taxes. Using government credit cards for private shopping. Using taxpayer money for private jets and personal luxuries. Does it seem like every politician is on the take these days?

Not Rob Blanchard. He is the rare example of a politician who understands our financial struggles, because he lives them himself. News reports say his opponent didn’t pay her car taxes, and voted in New York even though she lives here. Does she think she’s above us and the rules don't apply to her?

Rob Blanchard is different. He knows he is one of us. Like us, he wants to ease the financial burden of living here. He feels the pain we’re all feeling as gas, groceries, housing, health care and child care all become more and more expensive. He wants excellent schools for his son, and a vibrant community where his family can thrive and enjoy the beauty of Newtown.

Rob gets it, and he’s ready to fight in Hartford to make life in Connecticut more affordable. But unlike his opponent, he’ll fight honestly. And he won’t be fighting for his own personal benefit; he’ll be fighting for us!
