An Evening Of Harp Music

WESTON — An evening of harp music, to be performed by Rebecca Swett, will be presented by The Weston Commission for The Arts on Saturday, March 25, at 8 pm, in the community room at Weston Public Library, 58 Norfield Road.

Ms Swett, a native of Hartford, began playing the harp at age ten. As a youth she participated in Hartford Youth Orchestra and attended Interlaken Music Camp. Later, she continued her studies at Boston University School of Music.

Ms Swett moved to Weston from Florida last year with her husband Vern Swett, the associated minister at Norfield Church, and her three-year-old son Jordan. While living in Florida, Ms Swett performed with The Treasure Coast Symphony and The Atlantic Classical Orchestra. Locally Ms Swett plays the harp at weddings and special occasions.

The program on March 25 will include popular music as well as works by Debussy and Dussek. Afterward, Ms Swett will talk about the history of the harp, which dates back to Biblical times, and has assumed different forms in different countries – from King David’s harp to Ireland’s lap-held Celtic harp.

The doors of the community room will open at 7:30 pm. Coffee will be served.

All concerts and exhibitions presented by The Weston Commission for the Arts are offered to the public free of charge. This month the library is presenting an exhibition of mixed media with oil on plaster and panel by the Weston artist Leslie Giuliani.
