HARTFORD – Good news for those tired of this cold weather – golf season is just around the corner!

This week, the countdown began to the first competitive shot of the inaugural Travelers Championship on June 21, at the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell.

Tickets are now on sale. Just head to www.travelerschampionship.com.

“After more than 50 years of thrilling golf moments, spectators who have come to know and love Connecticut’s PGA tour event have a lot to look forward to this year,” said Nathan Grube, tournament director. “With our new hometown title sponsor, we’ve put a lot of thought and strategic planning into how we can make this event one of the best on the tour.”

Fans can enter to win the Ultimate Fan Sweepstakes, part of the newly created Travelers Championship Fan Zone. It’s free to join the Fan Zone and simple to register on the website and once fans are registered, they have access to special ticket sales and contests.

Through March 31, all registered Fan Zone members will be entered to win the Ultimate Fan Sweepstakes. One lucky fan will win a spot in the Saturday Series Pro-Am, a special chance to play with two PGA tour professionals on June 23.

Travelers Championship events will include the popular Celebrity Pro-Am and Junior Clinic will kick off on June 18. Competition will be held June 21 through June 24.

The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp of Ashford and the Greater Hartford Jaycees have been named co-charities of the championship.

Founded by Paul Newman in 1988, The Hole In The Wall Gang Camp enables children with cancer and other serious illnesses to enjoy a camping experience of the highest quality. All of the camp’s services are offered free of charge to the campers. More than 5,000 visit each year.

The tournament has provided more than $25 million to the community over the past 50 years.

The Greater Hartford Jaycees will use proceeds to serve numerous, diverse charitable organizations, as they have in their long-term relationship with the tournament and the PGA tour.
