Two Injured In Collision

Newtown Police report Milo Rosado, 23, of Trumbull, operating a 2020 Kia Rio, was traveling northbound on Hattertown Road at 7:35 am April 11. Sharon Ewing, 55, of Bethel, operating a 2024 Nissan Altima, was traveling southbound on Dodgingtown Road. Rosado approached the stop sign at the intersection of Hattertown and Dodgingtown Roads and proceeded through it without coming to a complete stop, and was struck by Ewing's vehicle.

Both operators reported injuries and were transported to Danbury Hospital. Both vehicles were towed.

Rosado was issued an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign and failure to drive right.

Evading Pickup

Newtown Police report that at 10:14 pm April 16, a 2021 Toyota Rav 4 owned by David Breen of Bridgton, Maine was stopped at a pump at the Mobil Gas Station, 62 Church Hill Road. An unknown vehicle described as a white, dual rear tire pickup truck with no front license plate and a large tow hitch that blocked the rear plate, which had been parked in a handicap parking space, backed up into Breen's vehicle. The pickup then continued to drive around the rear of the store and exited from the east exit of the lot.

Struck Trees, Bushes, Fence, Utility Pole

Newtown Police report Sonya Langhorn, 56, of Waterbury, operating a 2008 Toyota Corolla, was traveling eastbound on Dodgingtown Road at 4:52 pm April 16. While negotiating a left-hand curve in the roadway, Langhorn’s vehicle left the roadway right and struck a mailbox before striking several small trees, bushes, and a fence. After striking the fence, the vehicle struck a utility pole, bringing down wires.

Langhorn was transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries.

The incident is still under investigation.

Following Too Close

Newtown Police report Oeun Tong, 73, of Danbury, operating a 2005 Lexus LX 470, was traveling southbound on Main Street at 7:57 am April 17. He was traveling behind a 2019 Toyota Rav4 operated by Zambrano Pasantez, 25, of Bethel. Tong struck Pasantez's vehicle from the rear.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Tong was issued a written warning for following too close.

Drug-Related Charges

Newtown Police report that officers were dispatched to 75 Church Hill Road for the report of a suspicious person at 6:20 pm April 17. Officers located Corey Regensburger, 38, of Sandy Hook, and after conducting an investigation, and arrested him on the charges of use of drug paraphernalia and possession of a controlled substance — first offense.

Regensburger was released on a promise to appear with a court date of May 5 in Danbury Superior Court.

Hit-And-Run Driver Sought

Newtown Police report Alice Kroll, 70, of Oxford, operating a 2015 Honda Civic, was traveling on High Bridge Road at 10:22 am April 18. A black Dodge Ram believed to be an older model vehicle carrying wooden 2x4 planks in the bed struck Kroll's vehicle and then left the scene traveling eastbound on High Bridge Road. The driver was believed to be an older male with a black and white full beard and black and white short hair.

Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact Officer Dennison at 203-426-5841.

U-Turn Leads To Collision

Newtown Police report Christina Auguste, 21, of Shelton, operating a 2020 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling on Wasserman Way at 7:25 pm April 19. Riley McDonnell, 25, of New Fairfield, operating a 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee, was traveling westbound on Wasserman Way. Auguste attempted a U-turn, entering the path of McDonnell's vehicle, and was struck by McDonnell's vehicle.

McDonnell and a passenger in Auguste's vehicle were transported to Danbury Hospital for possible injuries. Both vehicles were towed.

Auguste was issued a misdemeanor summons for operating under suspension and making a restricted turn. Auguste was released on a promise to appear with a court date of May 1 in Danbury Superior Court.

Collision In Parking Lot

Newtown Police report Louie Pintek, 71, of Monroe, operating a 2008 Honda Accord, was backing out of a parking space in the lot at 228 South Main Street at 7:57 am April 21. Ellen McFarland, 75, of Stratford, operating a 2019 Nissan Sentra, was stopped allowing a passenger to exit. Pintek backed into McFarland's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

No enforcement action was taken since the incident occurred on private property.

Hit Embankment

Newtown Police report Karen Masser, 74, of Newtown, operating a 2021 Subaru Forester, was traveling eastbound on Poverty Hollow Road at 9:23 am April 21. The road narrowed and Masser veered right, striking an embankment.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Masser was issued a verbal warning for failure to drive in the established lane.

Struck By Passing Vehicle

Newtown Police report Arianna Harris, 29, operating a 2025 Toyota Grand Highlander, was traveling eastbound on Mt Pleasant Road at 6:18 pm April 21. Harris said another vehicle was traveling behind her in the eastbound lane and entered the westbound lane to pass. When it returned to the eastbound lane, it clipped Harris' vehicle. Harris honked her horn to get the operator's attention, but the operator kept driving and left the scene.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was not towed.

A criminal investigation is pending.

Failure To Maintain Lane On I-84

CT State Police report a 2007 Audi Q7 3.6 Quattro being operated by Juan Peguero, 68, of Danbury, was traveling west on I-84 near Exit 10 around 1:22 pm Wednesday, April 22 when Peguero lost control of the vehicle.

The Audi crossed the median and crashed into approximately 20 feet of DOT metal beam guard rail.

Peguero was transported by Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to the hospital for suspected minor injuries.

The Audi was towed by Modzelewski's Towing.

Peguero was given a verbal warning for failing to maintain his lane.

Struck Railroad Bridge

Newtown Police report Cory Moore, 50, of Kingwood, Texas, operating a 2018 Freightliner M2, was traveling southbound on Botsford Hill Road approaching the railroad bridge, in spite of clearly posted signs regarding vehicle height, at 6:09 pm April 24. The top of the vehicle's roof struck the bridge.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Moore was issued an infraction for failure to obey height requirement.

Uninsured Equinox Rear-Ends Civic

Newtown Police report Rosa Santo Madera, 65, of Miami, Fla., operating a 2012 Chevrolet Equinox, was traveling eastbound on Sugar Street at 9:41 pm April 24. She was traveling behind a 2022 Honda Civic operated by Andrew Short, 39, of Waterbury. Santo Madera rear-ended Short's vehicle.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Santo Madera was issued an infraction for following too close, and illegal operation of a motor vehicle without minimum insurance.

DUI Charge

Newtown Police report that officers were dispatched to a one-car motor vehicle accident at 11:03 pm April 24. The vehicle had struck two mailboxes and a grounded gas line pipe. Daby Cotter, 36, of Stratford, was identified as the driver. Cotter was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and failure to drive in the proper lane.

Cotter was released on a $1,000 bond with a court date of May 5 in Danbury Superior Court.

Failure To Drive Reasonable Distance Apart

Newtown Police report Ronni Morales, 20, of Bridgeport, operating a 2009 Honda Accord, was traveling northbound on South Main Street at 3:38 pm April 25. She was traveling behind a 2025 Kia K5 operated by Isabella Bedoya, 23, of Danbury. Bedoya slowed for traffic ahead and was rear-ended by Morales.

No injuries were reported. Neither vehicle was towed.

Morales was issued an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Struck Stop Sign

Newtown Police report Alyssa Fabian, 20, of Danbury, operating a 2009 Saturn Aura, was traveling eastbound on Hawleyville Road at 4:58 pm April 25. Fabian attempted to turn right onto Barnabas Road and struck the curb and stop sign.

No injuries were reported. The vehicle was towed.

Fabian was issued a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

A Newtown police officer walks toward the driver’s side of a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee after the vehicle backed into Café Duo around 10:30 am Monday, April 27. Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, a paramedic, and Newtown Hook & Ladder also responded to the crash, which sent the unidentified male driver of the vehicle to the hospital. There was reportedly no damage to the recently renovated building at 14 Church Hill Road. The business is not open on Monday; there were no other injuries reported. Two women were injured and at least one went to the hospital after the operator of this 2022 Honda HR-V EX crashed into a utility pole opposite Envy Towing & Recovery on Dodgingtown Road around noon Wednesday, April 29. The vehicle was traveling northwest on the state road when it went up the embankment, crashed into the utility pole, and rolled onto its driver’s side. The driver and passenger were both able to self-extricate. Newtown Police, Dodgingtown Volunteer Fire, Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps, and a paramedic all responded to the crash, which kept Dodgingtown Road closed for a few hours until the pole could be repaired.
