Working Together

To the Editor:

My husband and I are new to the area coming from a city; it’s very hard to adjust to this way of life. We remind each other that were here for our children’s education, and that seems to work for the day.

I decided since my kids are in the school system, I should get involved and attend the budget hearing. I sat in the back of the room, then I start to listen to all the public concerns about the budget. The air in that room was thick, my heart was racing a mile a minute, people were nervous, the room was 110 degrees, I felt like there was a sense of whose-team-are-you-on mentality.

I left the meeting thinking to myself: what was I thinking moving here?

After a simple test I gave the system to see who truly is dedicated to my kids, I have come to the conclusion that no school or person is perfect. I myself put high expectations on people and the outcome is not always what I wish.

Dr Robinson must have such a difficult job; think about what she has to deal with on a daily basis. (I’ll be one of the mothers that does not have any problem calling her with any type of situation that involves my children; believe me, I wouldn’t want to deal with me.) Then she has to be the bearer of bad news to a school system, then she has to listen to people speak about what you’re not doing, for four hours?

You couldn’t pay me enough!

My heart goes out to the teachers as well; society needs to realize that some teachers do that little extra for your child that you would have no idea about and will never know about.

I know this to be true because I worked in the school system for a brief time (specifically to benefit my children’s education) and witnessed these memorable moments that accrued on a daily basis.

The economy is not getting any better, the reality of it is that there are cuts that have to be made.

Let’s all come together calmly and be honest without getting upset or pointing the finger.

Let’s promote a caring community here in Newtown!

As far as the school system goes, I feel they truly make the best decision for my children, so I will not blame anyone, but work together in a professional manner and try to compromise.

I take no sides, I fight for my children and my children alone.
