A Bigger, Better Space at FFH Offered To The Library
B Y A NDREA Z IMMERMANN
When the Cyrenius Booth Library reopens in January, it will temporarily be
located in Shelton House, not Stratford Hall, on the Fairfield Hills Campus,
according to Bill Lavery, chairman of the Long Range Planning Building
Committee.
"Repairs at Stratford Hall would take longer than anticipated, and they're
[having professionals] do a clean-up with asbestos there," said Mr Lavery. "So
they suggested we take Shelton House, which is larger."
The library will use at least three of the large main rooms on the first floor
to serve the public - one room will hold adult books and some reference
materials, another room the children's books, a third room will be for
technical services. The front sunroom will be used as a conference/meeting
room. Former offices will probably be used as reading rooms. The Friends of
The Library will also have space to sort and store books for the library's
annual book sale. And all the books now in box trailers and the furniture will
be in the heated rooms at Shelton House.
The building has two entrances which can be used by patrons, and there is
handicapped access at the rear entrance. Tunxis Management Company will check
all the fire alarms, emergency exit lights, other equipment relating to fire
codes, as well as plumbing. Locks to the building will be rekeyed next week.
And board member Joe Humiston will have his cleaning company crew prepare the
designated rooms for occupancy.
This month, telephone and computer lines will be installed. The first week in
January, books and furniture will be moved in. Right now the staff hopes to
have the library up and running by the middle of January.
The library will operate out of Shelton House until June 1 when the library
addition is expected to be completed.
