Parents’ Page Now Available

On School District’s Website

By Eliza Hallabeck

Roughly two weeks ago, a new page on the school district’s website became available. It lists information, resources, links, and information in four columns for parents to scroll through.

School district secretary Joanne Morris said creating the New Parents’ Page was something she has been thinking about for awhile.

“Everything is on one page,” said Ms Morris this week, “so it is easier to access for parents.”

While some of the information, like the school calendar, is available on other areas of the school district’s website, Ms Morris said the new page is the start of streamlining the district’s main page.

Another new feature on the website is an updated version of the Board of Education’s page. Prior to Ms Morris’s changes, the school board’s page on the district’s website had been a dropdown menu on the left side of the website. Now, by clicking on “Board of Education,” website visitors are brought to one page, that lists things like agendas, meeting minutes, and the Newtown Public Schools Enrollment Projects as created by H.C. Planning Consultants, Inc.

Ms Morris said she has been thinking about making the district’s main website more friendly for awhile, and she has heard no response from parents since the updates went up to the site. According to Ms Morris, each individual school website is maintained by the school.

Superintendent of Schools Janet Robinson said new information that regarding learning disabilities will soon be available on the page.

“We are trying to put as much information as possible up there,” said Dr Robinson.

More changes might also come in the future, according to the superintendent, and if any parents are interested in learning information that is not available on the website, Dr Robinson said they should email her, robinsonj@newtown.k12.ct.us, or Ms Morris, morrisj@newtown.k12.ct.us. Once requested, the information will be posted to the website.
