Art Association Announces
77th Anniversary Season
KENT â 2000 marks the 77th anniversary of Kent Art Association, which was founded in 1923 by nine well-established artists who knew each other when they lived in New York before moving to Kent. During this millennium year, six exhibitions have been scheduled by the board of KAA, as well as two artist demonstrations.
The show schedule includes: âSpring Show,â April 22 to May 14; âMembersâ Show,â May 27 to June 18; âElected Artistsâ Invitational,â July 1 to July 23; âThe Presidentâs Show,â August 5 to September 4; âKAA Fall Show,â September 16 to October 15; and âThe Holiday Show,â November 18 to December 17.
Visitors to the Kent Art Association gallery will be dazzled by the array of artwork at the groupâs first juried art exhibition of the season when it opens its doors on Saturday, April 22. The Spring Show officially opens at 1 pm, and an awards reception, with cash prizes amounting to $1,700 plus plaques and certificates, will begin at 3 pm. Members and non-members are eligible to enter the competition, and all work is for sale.
All works are representational. It is expected that approximately 140 pieces of art including oils, watercolors, pastels, acrylics, graphics and small sculpture will be juried in from a field of over 250 entries created by artists who live primarily in the Connecticut, Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania area.
The artist demonstrations are scheduled during the spring and autumn. Noted pastel artist Tim Gaydos will do a portrait demonstration on May 20, and famed oil painter Charles Sovek will do a landscape demonstration on October 21.
The Kent Art Association gallery is open Thursday through Sunday from 1 to 5 pm. It is at 21 Smouth Main Street/Route 7, just south of the traffic light and monument.
