A Distress Call Answered

To the Editor:

Our four-year-old decided to explore farther than the norm behind the house in the woods. As parents, your first instinct is not to panic because he must be just out of sight for the moment – surely within a few shouts. Thirty minutes later and darkness approaching – not quite so settling. After a jump in the car driving through the neighborhood and searching the woods – inquiring all along – we realized soon afterward how many individuals were as concerned as we were.

Karen and I have walked with the children many times through the Saw Mill Ridge/Westwood Drive area and have seen many of you out and about – a casual wave here and there. We would like to thank all of you that evening who heard of our distress and kept a lookout – words alone cannot extend our appreciation. Devon is home safe and sound and your concern made all the difference. A special thanks to Debbie Daly and her husband, the eventual rescuers, who were driving down Saw Mill Road when they spotted him walking and called the police.
