The Connecticut League of Historical Societies has presented its Award of
Merit to Mary Mitchell and Albert Goodrich for their book Touring Newtown's
Past: the Settlement and Architecture of an Old Connecticut Town.
The award was presented by Janet Murphy, chairperson of the league's Award of
Merit Committee, at the Connecticut Historical Society in Hartford on June 2.
The committee presented the award to six recipients this year, all of whom
were congratulated and toasted at a reception at which the winning entries
were displayed.
The book was entered into the competition by the Newtown Historical Society.
In a statement, the society said it is very proud and fortunate to have its
entry honored with this distinctive award.
"Kudos to the people who wrote the letters of recommendation for this entry,
for we were congratulated not only on the book but on its presentation," the
society said.
