Scholarships Available Through NHS Career Center

The following Scholarships have arrived in the Career Center at Newtown High School. Applications and/or information for these Scholarships, as well as ones previously listed in The Bee, are available there. Please call Mrs McEvoy at 426-1915 if you have any questions.

The Newtown Visiting Nurse Association Anna E. Clow Scholarship – a $4,000 scholarship for a Newtown resident senior student entering the field of Nursing and who will enter a program giving an RN (Registered Nurse Degree) or a BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree). The scholarship will be awarded when the recipient has entered the Clinical portion of the nursing degree, at least into the second year of his or her nursing education. Application must be returned to the Career Center by April 28, 2000.

The Horticulture Club Of Newtown – is offering a $300 scholarship for a graduating high school senior who is interested in Environmental Science, Horticulture, or Ecology. Application is due into the Career Center by April 28, 2000.

Iota Chapter Of Delta Kappa Gamma – a $300 book grant to a student from the Danbury area who wishes to pursue a career in the field of education. Application deadline is May 5, 2000.

The Fairfield County Society Of The Financial Planning Association – scholarship awards ranging from $250 to $2,500 to college-bound Fairfield County high school seniors interested in pursuing a course of study that will result in a degree in business, accounting, or related business field, and lead to a possible career in financial planning. Scholarships will be given in consideration of academic achievement, financial need, and career potential. Applications must be postmarked by no later than April 18, 2000.

Science Horizons 2000 Scholarships – there are 3 scholarships available for 2000 graduating seniors who have been a finalist or place winner in the Science Horizons Science Fair or Symposium at least one year in either the Senior Physical or Senior Biological divisions. See application in the Career Center for further information. Applications must be received no later than May 5, 2000.

Newtown Girls’ Softball Association – a $500 scholarship for a graduating senior girl who has played softball for Newtown Parks and Recreation or for Newtown High School. Application deadline is May 5, 2000.

The Junior League Of Greater Waterbury, Inc. – a $500 grant will be awarded to a graduating student from the Greater Waterbury Area “who has demonstrated a commitment to volunteerism through active participation in his or her community” and plans to continue his or her education at an institute of higher learning or professional training. Applications are due by May 1, 2000.

The Society Of Women Engineers – scholarship program is offered to women who will be graduating high school in the Spring of 2000 who plan to major in engineering or computer science at a college or university with an ABET-accredited program or in a SWE-approved school. (Other scholarships available for college and grad students.) Numerous scholarships are available varying from $200 to $5,000 per year. Applications must be postmarked no later than May 15, 2000.

Newtown Youth Services, Inc. – offering a scholarship for a graduating senior living in Newtown who has given something back to the community through volunteer work and community service. Application deadline is by 4:00 pm on April 27, 2000.
