For Disaster Services
HARTFORD â The Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services is currently seeking volunteers 18 years and older for the seven Emergency Canteen Units located throughout Connecticut. Volunteers will be trained in providing relief and services to emergency responders, and work with other agencies to ensure that victims receive support for short- and long-term care and counseling.
Training will be offered in the following areas: Introduction to the Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services; Preparing Your Congregation for a Disaster; Disaster Social Services; Incident Command Systems; Disaster Food Services; Handling and Delivery; Public Information Officer; Emotional and Spiritual Care in Disaster Operations; and Disaster Volunteer Management.
âIt is our trained volunteers that provide a shield of hope to emergency workers and victims who are affected by disaster,â said Chris Baker, director of emergency disaster services for Southern New England. âVolunteers are essential to the work of The Salvation Army.â
The Salvation Army provides year-round social services to persons in need at 27 Corps Community Centers and through 43 Service Units, including emergency assistance for individuals and families.
