Annual Irish-Jewish Mishmash

At Love & Knishes

SOUTHBURY — From Yiddish favorites to Irish folksongs, old standards to classical, four very different musical programs will be featured during March at the Love & Knishes Lunch Program in the Jewish Federation’s social hall at 444 Main Street North.

All area adults age 60 and better are invited to make reservations for hot lunch, which is served at noon and followed by entertainment at 1 pm.

On March 2, singer/pianist Larry Batter makes an encore appearance at Love & Knishes, playing old standards, show tunes, Yiddish favorites, and some jazz songs, as well as telling a few jokes and stories.

On March 9, singer/guitarist Pierce Campbell appears at the 8th Annual Irish Bash, a celebration of Irish music and Jewish food. Mr Campbell is a former Connecticut State Troubadour, a member of the Kerry Boys and the Funky Butt Jazz Band, and has five CDs to his credit.

Pianist Ethel Kaufman teams up with trumpeter Bucky Milam and drummer Jeremy Alston for a program of favorites from the Great American Songbook on March 16.

And pianist Roger Young welcomes spring on March 23 with music by George Gershwin, Cole Porter, Scott Joplin, some short classical pieces, and audience special requests.

Lunch reservations must be made by the Friday before each lunch. All programs are open to the public, and there is a suggested lunch donation of $7.50 for adults age 60 and better and $9.50 for those under 60.

To RSVP, call Debby Horowitz, Brownstein Jewish Family Service director, at 203-267-3177, extension 105.
