The Promise And Reality Of The Internet
DANBURY â The Libraries of Western Connecticut State University and the Media Services and Library Policy Committee of the University Senate will present a colloquium entitled âThe Promise and the Reality of the Internet: How the Internet is Changing Student Researchâ on Wednesday, March 29, at 7 pm in the Student Center Theater, located on the universityâs Midtown campus.
Panelists will discuss the positive and negative aspects of the growing reliance on Internet-based resources for conducting research, Internet copyright issues, and implications for teaching and learning, etc. Questions such as âAre critical thinking skills, positive learning outcomes, and quality instruction merely a click away?â and âWhat is the role of the book and other print media?â will be discussed.
Panelists will include Dr Arlene Bielsfield, professor, School of Communication, Information and Library Science, Southern Connecticut State University; Dr Janet Burke, professor, education and educational psychology, WCSU; Dr William Petkanas, professor, communication and theater arts, WCSU; Joan Reitz, instruction librarian, Ruth A. Haas Library, WCSU; Rutherford Witthus, curator of literary and natural history collections and coordinator of automation and technical services, University of Connecticut, Storrs.
