Young Adult Poetry Session Scheduled

The C.H. Booth Library Creative Writing Group for Young Adults will offer a session in poetry this fall. Retired English teacher and Newtown resident Liz Arneth, with volunteer assistant Donna Renzulli, one of the library’s adult writer volunteers, will lead the group. All sessions will allow time for writing and sharing poems in progress, as well as one-on-one communication between adults and young people. Sharing is an important part of all writing groups.

The group will meet from 6 to 8 pm on five Monday evenings, October 15, 22, 29 and November 5 and 19, with a makeup date scheduled for November 26 if needed. There is no meeting on November 12. There is a limit of ten students in grades 6–8. There is no fee for the session, but participants are expected to attend all five sessions, and preference is given to Newtown residents and students. For more information, see Margaret Brown, young adult librarian. Sign up at the main floor desk of the C.H. Booth Library or call 426-4533.

Creative Writing for Young Adults is an ongoing program at the C.H. Booth Library. It is funded by the Praxair Foundation and the Friends of the C.H. Booth Library. It offers groups in different genres: poetry in the fall; fiction in the winter; and mysteries and thrillers in the spring. In summer there are two groups in the Writing Camp, divided by age, that write in a variety of genres. The library encourages all young writers to participate in this opportunity to develop their writing style in a friendly, relaxed group setting with guidance from adult authors and teachers.
