The Art And Architecture Of Bridgeport

See Bridgeport through the eyes of contemporary artists who live or lived, work and/or teach in Bridgeport.

Easton Public Library, in cooperation with City Lights Gallery & Frame Shop of Bridgeport, will present “The Art and Architecture of Bridgeport,” a special exhibition to be presented at the library from February 24 through April 3. A public reception will be held on Wednesday, March 7, from 6 to 8 pm.

The show encompasses the old and the new visions of Bridgeport. Lou Trapasso’s works brings back the nostalgia of downtown in its heyday of the 1940s and 50s. Tom Brenner’s pastels are literal, accurate accounts of the more gritty or the run down sides of Bridgeport, while Doris B. Giammatteo’s watercolors concentrate on the historical buildings and architecture of Bridgeport, from the Fairfield County Courthouse to The Perry Memorial Arch and other recognizable sites.

Andy Pinto and Kevin Conklin, one using acrylic the other oil paint, capture the juxtapositioning of the Barnum Museum and People’s Bank Headquarters building from almost the exact angle on Main Street.

Christy Gallagher, Joan Peters, Suzanne Kachmar, all painting in watercolor, offer their views of familiar scenes and of neighborhood homes on the South side and the East end. Phil Levine works with photography, art and collaging artifacts from Bridgeport’s deconstruction.

Israel Guibbory and Dom Mastrianni use more straight-forward photography as they find angles and views most take for granted in downtown Bridgeport and the area.

Easton Public Library, at 691 Morehouse Road (on the corner of Center Street), can be reached by calling 261-0134.
