HARTFORD â The 22nd annual Statewide Holocaust Commemoration will be held on Friday, May 5, at 11 am in the Senate chambers in the State Capitol.
The keynote speaker will be Gerda Weissman Klein. Ms Klein is an author, historian, columnist, and speaker. Her writings include her autobiography, All But My Life, in print for 38 years in 35 editions. She met her husband, Kurt Klein, when he liberated her from a death march at the end of World War II. The Kleinsâ story is part of the Testimony film shown continuously at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC, and also served as a basis for the HBO documentary One Survivor Remembers: The Gerda Weissman Klein Story, which received an Emmy award in 1995.
Bernard Lurie, concertmaster of the Hartford Symphony and Connecticut Opera orchestras, will perform music from Schindlerâs List and the music of Tchaikowski.Â
