Newtown crushed Southbury, 72-22, behind 29 points from Kelley Haines and another 23 points from Tori Filler. Both performances were personal highs for the girls as Newtown raised its record to 14-6.
Stephanie Logan was strong on defense, blocking shots in the paint and then chipping in with 10 points.
Four members of the team will be heading on to AAU basketball during the spring and summer. Tori Filler will play for the Wescon Fillies; Kelley Haines will play for the CT Starters; Julie Ianicki will play for the CT Breeze; and Stephanie Logan will play for the Fairfield Huskies. These national AAU organizations provide high-level basketball competition for players ages 10 to 17 throughout the United States.
Former UConn players Nykesha Sales and Jen Rizzotti played for the CT Starters during their high school years.
