Expecting Different Results

To the Editor:

Albert Einstein was quoted as saying that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over, expecting different results.

We are running for the Board of Selectmen because we believe that the town can work together, not dependent on politics or personalities, but unified by the notion of wanting to do what is best for the residents. This is a unique period in Newtown’s history, one of many challenges, but also tremendous opportunities.

While navigating through these turbulent waters we must not lose sight of preparing the town for the future. If we approach this task, together, with a shared vision and concrete benchmarks, we will be successful. By utilizing the talents and resources that the residents of this town offer, we can become a role model of what a community working together can achieve.

It is also a time to put on our rally hats and ensure that we help each other to make it through these difficult economic conditions. We believe that local government can play a part in this regard, such as continuing to seek ways to ease the burden on the taxpayers. At the same time we must be careful not to overlook our obligation to provide a quality education to our youth, provide a strong support network for our seniors, or preserve the nature of this town.

As we spend these next months talking to you, about your ideas, and sharing ours, please consider whether this will be the election that you will take a stand against business as usual and get involved. If you have a question, can provide input, or would like to part of this quest please contact either of us at gafetzer@aol.com or jhshct@aol.com.

Thank you and we look forward to meeting each of you.
