WATERBURY – “Correct Nutrition For Your Horse” will be the subject of the second Quiz The Experts lecture presented Friday, March 5, by the Equine Resources Committee at Teikyo Post University in Waterbury.

The lecture will begin at 7:15 pm.

Mari Jo Hanbury from animal food company Blue Seal will share her expertise on the proper rations and proportions required to provide a balanced diet to a variety of horses. Nutrition is an area that can be rather ‘murky’ for many horse owners. This lecture will cover many of the important points that should be considered when formulating a suitable feeding schedule.

Ms. Hanbury will explain many of the factors that must be taken into account – such as the number of feedings per day, the amount of work being done by the horse, its age and condition, the amount of grass turnout available and the time of year. Feeding a horse is part ‘art’ and part science, so she will also delve into the analysis of each type of feed, the value of supplements and how important good quality forage is to the horse’s well being.

The lecture will be held in Room 201 of the Drubner Center. The building is on Route 63, off exit 17 of I-84. Tickets are $6 in advance or $10 at the door.

The next lecture will be “Getting Your Horse Ready For Spring/Summer” and will be presented by Dr Kate Kane on Friday, March 26. To reserve seats, make checks payable to TPU-ERC and send to Carole Baker at Teikyo Post University, P.O. Box 2540, Waterbury, CT 06723-2540. Proceeds benefit equine scholarships and the equine program at Teikyo Post.
