Two Honored By State VFW [Joyce Staudinger and Rose Holland]

Joyce Staudinger and Rose Holland, members of the Ladies Auxiliary, Post 308

of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Newtown, were honored at the 72nd State VFW

Convention June 6-8 at the Trumbull Marriott.

This is the second year Mrs Staudinger has been presented with the prestigious

Rehabilitation Citation of Merit Award for her continuing volunteer efforts to

assist and restore better living conditions for veterans and their families.

She also has assisted senior citizens and their families, taking them shopping

and to medical appointments, providing meals, taking them to religious

meetings, to elections or visiting them to provide companionship.

Rose Holland, publicity director for the organization, was presented first

prize for coverage of programs, official visits, patriotic events, television,

newspaper, radio, Internet, newsletters, post and flyers displayed. Mrs

Holland also has kept a press book and photo album for the organization since

it was formed on January 14, 1995.

Anyone interested in joining the auxiliary should come to the clubhouse,

located on Tinkerfield Road, the first Wednesday of each month before the 7 pm

meeting begins.
