Police Union Mails Out A Promotional Safety Booklet
The Newtown Police Union has published its Public Safety Awareness Handbook, a
softcover booklet that explains aspects of public safety to residents.
Newtown Police Union, Local #3153 of the American Federation of Labor and
Congress of Industrial Organizations (AFL-CIO), recently mailed copies of the
booklet to all local postal addresses.
Besides the health and safety tips in the booklet, a list of town agency
telephone numbers has been included for residents' reference.
The police union uses the money its raises from advertising published in the
booklet to to support local youth groups and community groups.
Also, the police union will be awarding a $1,000 annual scholarship to a
graduating Newtown High School senior student who will be continuing his or
her education in criminal justice or a related major course of study.
The union also plans to provide financial help to any student who needs aid
for either "pay-to-play" sports programs or who needs equipment to play a
sport.
"The Newtown Police Union understands the needs of residents and taxpayers.
Last spring, we sat down with the first selectman and settled or withdrew over
30 grievances filed against the town. This saved the town in excess of $25,000
in legal fees," Police Union President Sgt Henry Stormer writes in a message
to residents and businesses who received the public safety booklet.
C.T. Maher Promotions of Prospect prepared the 62-page booklet for the police
union.
