Dog Dies In Riverside Burglary
Police are investigating the death of a pet dog in connection with a
residential burglary in the Riverside section, near Lake Zoar.
About 5 pm on March 15, the victim of the house break came home from work,
found his front door unlocked and saw his dog lying motionless on the kitchen
floor. The burglary victim then realized that the canine was dead.
In investigating the burglary, police found signs of forced entry into the
house in the area where the dog was found lying dead.
Police said there was no bullet in the dog and no medical examination will be
performed on it. It is unclear if the dog was killed by the burglar in the
break-in, police said.
Many drawers in upstairs bedrooms were dumped on the floor in the burglary,
police said. The thief or thieves stole an unspecified amount of cash.
The incident constitutes third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, and
cruelty to animals, police said. Fifth-degree larceny involves the theft of
between $250 and $500 of cash or goods.
Police ask anyone with information about the case to contact them at the
police station.
