Seymour Woman Hired As Tax Assessor
B Y S TEVE B IGHAM
Nearly four months since the sudden departure of Tax Assessor Mark DeVestern,
First Selectman Bob Cascella has hired a replacement.
Denise Hames of Seymour was informed of her hiring at a meeting with Mr
Cascella and Personnel Director Nancy Markey Saturday morning.
Mrs Hames, who was chosen among a list of eight candidates, will start work in
the assessor's office later this month. She will earn $46,000.
The new town assessor had previously been employed as the deputy assessor in
the Town of Southbury. She recently left Southbury and has been working in a
law office.
Mrs Hames will serve a 90-day probation period during which time she will be
considered the acting assessor, according to Mr Cascella. Following the
probation, she will be officially appointed by the Board of Selectmen.
Mr DeVestern, the town's tax assessor since 1989, resigned last December,
saying he was doing so "in order to pursue other opportunities."
