Oxford Airport To Be Improved
HARTFORD - The State Bond Commission on July 25 approved a $3.7 million grant
for various improvements at the Oxford Airport.
The federal government is contributing $1.5 million. No local funds will be
expended.
The projects include safety area improvements and bypass taxiways,
construction of a vehicle storage building, purchase of a runway snow broom,
installation of a sanitary sewer system and parking lot lighting, creation of
an aircraft tiedown ramp, power line relocation and purchase of $400,000 of
crash fire rescue equipment.
"Thousands of people use the Oxford Airport every year," said State Rep John
E. Stripp, R-135th District, in announcing the grant. "[The airport] is a
major economic asset, both for the nearby towns and small businesses and for
the state as a whole. Connecticut has a good mix of international, regional
and local airports, all of which make us more attractive to businesses and
contributes to economic growth. These improvements will make our region even
more attractive to new employers."
