Mobile Unit Sterilizes Cats

SOUTHBURY — The TEAM Mobile Feline Unit, based in Westbrook and Connecticut’s first and only mobile spay/neuter and vaccination clinic for cats, will visit more than 35 communities statewide in early 2004 as part of an ongoing effort to end feline overpopulation. It will be in Southbury on February 24 and April 27.

The nonprofit mobile clinic for cats was launched in 1997 to make spay/neuter services more affordable and more accessible to pet owners and to those caring for homeless cats. By keeping costs low, TEAM strives to sterilize as many cats as possible before they reproduce, which can be as early as six months of age.

TEAM has spayed or neutered more than 70,000 domestic and feral cats to date.

The TEAM fee of $57 per cat includes a brief exam, spay or neuter, vaccinations (rabies, distemper, upper/lower respiratory infection), nail trim and ear mite treatment (if needed). Parasite prevention and treatment is also available.

TEAM is on the road at least five days a week. The mobile clinic, which contains a fully equipped surgery, parks at a designated location in a different town each day and cats are altered on-board by a licensed veterinarian. The program is recommended for kittens and cats 16 weeks of age or older.
