Home Construction Continues Apace

B Y A NDREW G OROSKO

The brisk pace of home construction is continuing in town, with requests for

two residential subdivisions in Sandy Hook totalling 33 lots scheduled for

March 7 public hearings before the Planning and Zoning Commission (P&Z).

P&Z members also will conduct a public hearing on a requested change of zone

for Rocky Glen Mill.

High Meadow Farms Associates is seeking the resubdivision of Lots 13 and 19 in

the Cobbler's Ridge development into 14 lots on 77 acres. The property is

located on Cobbler's Mill Road and the extension of Mountain Manor Road in

Sandy Hook.

The property eyed for more residential development is in the general vicinity

of the intersection of Jeremiah Road and Bennetts Bridge Road.

In another home development proposal, PSD partnership is seeking approval for

a final residential subdivision plan for Whispering Pines, a proposed 19-lot

development on 26 acres on Cherry Street, Pine Street, and Narragansett Road

in Sandy Hook. The land is the general vicinity of the Pootatuck Park

development.

Also, at the March 7 P&Z session, Glenmill Corporation, the owner of Rocky

Glen Mill at 75 Glen Road in Sandy Hook, is scheduled for a public hearing on

its proposal for a change of zone from M-4 (Industrial) to SHDD (Sandy Hook

Design District).

The P&Z created the SHDD zone last year as a mechanism to expand the permitted

land uses in Sandy Hook Center, where Church Hill Road, Washington Avenue,

Riverside Road and Glen Road meet.

The SHDD zoning consolidates several types of zoning which had been in use in

Sandy Hook Center. P&Z members created the SHDD district to liberalize land

uses in Sandy Hook Center.

Rocky Glen Mill is commonly known as Fabric Fire Hose, a firm that formerly

manufactured firefighting equipment there.

P&Z members also are slated to consider a proposal to create a historic

district along Main Street in the town center. The Borough Zoning Commission

has asked the P&Z to make a recommendation on the proposal.
