Salvation Army To Recognize Bell Ringers
The holiday season can be a busy time, but there are people who take time out
from their hectic schedules to give their time to the Salvation Army - as
"Bell Ringers."
They will be recognized Sunday from noon to 2 pm at a "Recognition Reception"
to salute their past service in ringing bells for residents of Newtown. The
event, put on by the Newtown Service of the Salvation Army, will be in the
Alexandria Room, Town Hall. Refreshments will be served.
Sylvia Poulin and Marie Sturdevant are co-chairs of this event.
Money collected in the kettles is spent solely on Newtown residents who are in
need of some help. Food, dental and doctor bills, fuel and clothing are just
some of the ways this money is used. Volunteers are the backbone of the
Salvation Army is.
The Salvation Army's bells will ring out this year on the weekends of December
13-14 and December 20-21.
Volunteers are still needed to man the kettles for one-hour increments.
Sign-up sheets will be available at the reception and afterwards in the town
clerk's office at Town Hall.
Newtown Service Unit President Barbara Bigham invites the community to attend
the reception to learn what the Salvation Army is all about. Bob Kreidler,
Hartford Service Unit Representative for Newtown, will make a presentation on
the works and services of the Salvation Army.
Reservations can be made by calling 426-6803 or 426-5957.
