A 40th Reunion For Class Of 1958?
Fredrick Rees, president of the Class of 1958, is hoping to organize a 40th
reunion party to be held sometime early in the fall of 1998.
Mr Rees said that his class was one of the first to go all the way through the
"new" high school on Queen Street that was built in 1953. The building now
houses the middle school. Before 1953, Newtown's upper grades were located in
the Hawley School.
Mr Rees actually missed his graduation ceremonies at Edmond Town Hall 40 years
ago, because he "had to catch a boat" headed for France. But he did receive
his diploma early from the Board of Education during a "surprise" ceremony, he
recalled.
Now, Mr Rees would like to see as many of his 32 classmates as possible come
back for their 40th, including those members of the class who did not graduate
from the Newtown school system but transferred to private schools instead.
"We were a tight knit bunch," he said during a recent visit to his former home
on Hanover Road.
Any member of the Class of 1958 who might be thinking of attending is asked to
write to Fred Rees at PO Box 4222, Cave Creek, AZ 85327. Classmates may also
reach Mr Rees by making a collect call to 602/488-3457.
