Library Prepares To Close For A Month
B Y A NDREA Z IMMERMANN
Anyone who hasn't made it through his summer reading list may want to
stockpile a few books because the Booth Library will be closed August 12
through September 9.
That four-week period is when construction workers will perform intensive
demolition and renovation work. The entire back of the building will be taken
off to accommodate the addition. Workers will also remove asbestos from
radiators, add duct work for heating and air-conditioning, and repair and
update plumbing, said Library Director Janet Woycik.
Although the building will be closed to the public, full-time staff will be
back at work after the first week. They will put the reference books on
computer and possibly have time to add the geneaology collection, according to
Mrs Woycik. The director also plans on setting up the non-fiction books
downstairs so when the library reopens, the books will once again be available
to the public.
"If patrons need something, they will be able to check it out for a month,"
said Mrs Woycik. This includes books and books on tape, but not videos. "If
students need high school reading list books, they need to come in and get
them before the twelfth."
The summer reading program will end Saturday, August 10, and that is the new
deadline for anyone who wants to report on books he has read. The drawing for
Middle School Madness will be August 9, and winners will receive their prizes
on Friday, August 9.
The book drop will be open throughout the four weeks and will be emptied daily
by a staff member.
Books donated for the Labor Day Book Sale will continue to be collected at the
site of the old A&P in the Queen Street Shopping Plaza.
