ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Going on sale Saturday, October 3, are tickets for the November 1 MOTLEY CRUE
performance at the Oakdale in Wallingford. Not surprisingly for a theatre that
has catered more to the classic rock, country and family programming crowd in
the past (prior to the purchase takeover of the theatre earlier this year by
SFX Entertainment) this will be the Crue's first performance at the Oakdale.
Tickets for the show are $31.50 and $36.50. Call the Oakdale's box office,
265-1501, for reservations.
No name has been announced for the opener yet, because the band hasn't yet
been selected. Throughout the Crue's current tour, the band is giving local
bands in each market a chance to open the show. The "Kickstart Your Career"
promotion is allowing aspiring musicians from each state to submit their tapes
to local drop-off locations. Connecticut bands can drop off two CDs or tapes,
with bio and picture, at the following locations: WCCC radio station, 1039
Asylum Avenue in Hartford; LaSalle Music, 989 Farmington Avenue in West
Hartford; or LaSalle Music, 993 Main Street in East Hartford. Deadline for
submissions is October 23 at 5 pm.
Five finalists will be selected to compete in a Battle of the Bands, and the
winners will be band to share the stage with Motley Crue next month.
Halloween at The Webster in Hartford will be taken care of by THE URGE.
Tickets are on sale, finally, next Saturday (Oct 10) for PHISH at the New
Haven Coliseum. The show marks a move by the band from its traditional
november show at the Hartford Civic Center to a smaller venue that's been very
quiet this year.
On the same night, across town, the band's lyricist, DUDE OF LIFE, will be
performing at Toad's Place.
Tickets are on sale already for a LITTLE FEAT concert at The Globe in Norwalk,
November 15.
Can't wait for the return of NRBQ to Toad's Place late next month? If you're
up for a trip to Stamford instead, the creative foursome will be at Rich Forum
on Friday, November 6. (The Toad's Place/New Haven show isn't until the 27th
of the month). Tickets for the Stamford show, which will start at 8 pm, are
$20 and $25 each. They're on sale now; call the Forum's box office, 325-4466.
SQUIRREL NUT ZIPPERS is back on the college campus rotation, having played at
the University of Hartford last spring. The band will now be at Jorgensen
Auditorium, on the UConn/Storrs campus, on Tuesday, October 27. Tickets went
on sale to the public Monday morning, at $20 and $22 each. Jorgensen's box
office can be reached at 860/486-4226.
Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on the road.
