Police Busy On Holiday Weekend

Police were active on special patrol duty during the lengthy Independence Day

holiday weekend, issuing notices of 128 motor vehicle violations to motorists

on local roads.

Lieutenant David Lydem, head of the police department's field services unit,

reports that police issued 118 motor vehicle infraction notices to drivers for

various offenses.

Police also made two arrests on charges of driving while under the influence

of alcohol and/or drugs, and issued eight written warnings to motorists on

various violations, according to the lieutenant.

The police added special patrols to town roads during the Independence Day

holiday weekend to more strictly enforce the drunken driving laws. Funding for

the extra patrols will be partially covered by a federal grant.

The patrols were conducted from Wednesday, July 3, through Sunday, July 7.
