Cascella Asks For Police Commission Review Development Traffic Issues
First Selectman Robert Cascella asked P&Z members December 5 to consider the
views of the Police Commission and police department when making
traffic-related decisions on development projects. The Police Commission
serves as the town's traffic authority.
He suggested that the P&Z send information on development proposals to the
Police Commission for its members' comments.
In August, in a 4-to-1 vote, P&Z members approved the Pinnacle Ridge
residential subdivision in Dodgingtown over nearby residents' vocal protests
that placing a development there would create traffic problems due to the
project's proximity to the sweeping curve on Route 302 near the Rock Ridge
Country Club. Newtown Development Group, LLC, gained P&Z approval for 10
building lots on 14 acres there.
Also, residents living near the planned Camelot subdivision, consisting of 42
lots on 110 acres, have said new home construction will aggravate traffic
hazards along Hattertown Road, near Purdy Station Road.
Also, residents living near the Sandy Hook site proposed for Newtown Village,
a 102-house development off Berkshire Road, have said the presence of that
number of new residents in the area will pose yet more traffic congestion
problems in an already congested area.
The developers of Newtown Village have not yet submitted plans for the project
to the P&Z.
