WPCA Slates Info Session On Directional Drilling
The Water Pollution Control Authority (WPCA) has scheduled a public
informational session on directional drilling, an innovative technique it's
considering using to install gravity-powered sanitary sewers on the east side
of Main Street to prevent damage to the mature trees there.
The session is slated for 8:30 pm on Wednesday, December 6, in the Alexandria
Room of Edmond Town Hall. The topic of where to place sewers to serve the east
side of Main Street also is scheduled for discussion at that meeting.
Also on December 6, the WPCA is scheduled to hold two subcommittee meetings
before the directional drilling informational session. The WPCA's sewer
assessment subcommittee is slated to meet at 7:30 pm and its sewer limits
subcommittee is scheduled for 8 pm, both in the Alexandria Room.
Hemlock Directional Boring of Torrington is scheduled to explain aspects of
the sewer installation process to the public.
In directional drilling, the bore holes into which sewer lines would be
inserted lie below the root systems of trees to avoid damaging those trees.
There are more sites on the east side of Main Street lying between Church Hill
Road and Glover Avenue than between Schoolhouse Hill Road and Church Hill Road
where directional drilling would be applicable.
Directional drilling requires the excavation of entry pits and exit pits
between which the drilling would take place.
