Meserve Fund Awards Grants
The Meserve Memorial Fund recently awarded 15 grants totaling $73,905 to
Danbury-area nonprofit organizations.
The fund was established in 1983, a legacy of the late Mr and Mrs Albert W.
Meserve, to support local charitable organizations in the region encompassed
by Newtown, Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, New Fairfield, New Milford, Redding,
Ridgefield, Sherman and Bridgewater.
Among the recent grants were $5,000 to Regional Hospice to establish a lending
library program of audio and visual equipment and resources for terminally ill
patients; $9,170 to Literacy Volunteers of America, Danbury, to introduce
interactive computer-assisted instruction to LVA's one-to-one tutoring
program; $7,200 to DATAHR Rehabilitation Institute, Brookfield, to fund job
placement and rehabilitation manager software modules; $2,500 to the Fairfield
County Council, Boy Scouts of America, to expand the Learning for Life Program
in Danbury, and $4,000 to Good Friend to update training methods and materials
for volunteers.
The fund is administered by the Fairfield County Community Foundation in
Norwalk. The next deadline for applications is April 1, 1998. For more
