Parent Workshop Slated: Living With A Middle School Student

(with cut)

Mary Ellen Callahan, Newtown Middle School guidance counselor, will be

presenting an interactive workshop on "Living With a Middle School Student."

This workshop, designed for parents of middle school students, focuses on the

skills needed to communicate and give support to the 11- to 14-year-old

population.

Mrs Callahan described how middle schoolers can become secretive, moody or

unexpectedly angry.

A parent herself, she often describes easy-to-relate-to situations with her

own children as examples. Mrs Callahan said that most parents appreciate

knowing that they are not alone.

Mrs Callahan will be explaining what a child needs from parents to be

successful, and how to re-open lines of communication with young people.

This workshop is back by popular demand, after the presentation Mrs Callahan

gave at the Parent University held at the school last fall.

The workshop will be held on Tuesday, February 3, from 7 to 9 pm at the

Newtown Middle School cafeteria.

Since this workshop is limited to 30 people, advance registration is

recommended. For registration or other information, call 426-7645.
