Cheryl E. Lockwood
It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our loved one, Cheryl E. Lockwood, of Sandy Hook, on Wednesday, November 4. Cheryl was born April 12, 1961, at St Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury. Cheryl was the daughter of George F. Lockwood, Sr, and Carol Ann (Skirkanich) Lockwood of Sandy Hook.
Cheryl graduated from Newtown High School in 1979 and was a part of the track team for several years. She attended Western Connecticut State University and afterward served in the United States Army where she earned the Sharpshooter Marksmanship Metal. After her time in the army, Cheryl went on to become a Judicial Marshal for the State of Connecticut and retired in 2012.
Cheryl had a passion for dogs and was a member of the Connecticut Canine Search and Rescue with her companion Gabby. She belonged to the Sandy Hook Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW Post 308 Auxiliary.
Cheryl is survived by her brothers George F. Lockwood, Jr, and Garret (wife Donna) Lockwood; her sister, Karen Pratt-Szilagyi (husband Stephen); nieces Emily Dinan, Jillian Pratt, and Stacey Lockwood; nephews Adam Pratt, Garret Lockwood, and Carsten Szilagyi; great-niece, Mia Pratt; and great-nephews Nicholas Antonio, Jordan Pratt, Ryder Pratt, and Liam Dinan. Cheryl is also survived by many aunts, uncles, and cousins. She will be missed very much by her pets and best friends, Gabriella, Bella, and Peanut.
Cheryl was loved by everyone who knew her and was a surrogate mother to her great-niece and great-nephews.
The calling hours will be held Monday, November 9, 2020, from 4 to 7 pm at Honan Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Tuesday, November, 10, 2020, at 10:30 am in St Rose of Lima Church. Interment will follow in St Rose Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Cheryl Lockwood’s name be sent to Newtown Animal Control, 21 Old Farm Road, Newtown CT 06470; or the Sandy Hook Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, PO Box 783, Sandy Hook CT 06482.
